Sparrow’s Philly Cheesesteaks 240 St Kilda Road, St Kilda, Vic 3182
In just three years Sparrow’s Philly Cheesesteaks have established themselves as a crowd favourite in Melbourne’s inner North. Operating the bustling kitchen at The Catfish Fitzroy in Gertrude St, as well as the pop-up kitchen at the North Fitzroy Pinnacle.
In November 2016 the Sparrow’s food truck launched to great fanfare and acclaim. The truck is quickly becoming a regular at Welcome To Thornbury, The Food Truck Park Preston & Tallboy & Moose Brewery, with major event appearances including The Aus Open festival, Let Them Eat Cake, The Pleasure Garden and A Day On the Green at Hanging Rock for Bruce Springsteen.
So what’s a cheesesteak? Invented in 1930 by Pat Olivieri, a South Philadelphian hot dog vendor, a Philly Steak is a long, soft roll filled with thinly sliced sautéed rib eye beef and melted cheese. It goes well with added extras like sweet peppers and mushrooms and Sparrow’s have mastered the famous cheesy drip and style of a 1985 proper cheesesteak.
